Swiss Keyboard Mac

broken image

I was at the Apple Store in Boston last night and asked your question. They said that if you buy a new laptop at the Apple store and say that you want a Swiss keyboard, they will give you a laptop with a US keyboard, and order a Swiss keyboard from Switzerland at the same time. It will take several weeks for the Swiss keyboard to get here. The first thing you might be shocked about when traveling is that the layout of the letters on the keyboard won't necessarily be the same as at home. QWERTY (check the first six letters on the top row) is the standard for most keyboards around the world, but others exist, including AZERTY, QWERTZ, and ones where it seems the letters are just. At the same time, German speaking users can choose between the German Qwertz and Swiss Qwertz layouts. 0 Russian - German and Russian - Swiss German keyboard layouts for Mac OS X lets you type Russian using the standard German or Swiss German keyboard. 10 with swiss french keyboard layout and working VMWare tools (alt-gr works in regular VM.

Magic Keyboard combines a sleek design with a built-in rechargeable battery and enhanced key features. With a stable scissor mechanism beneath each key, as well as optimized key travel and a low profile, Magic Keyboard provides a remarkably comfortable and precise typing experience. 1) Control panel, Region and language, Keyboard and languages, Change Keyboards. 2) Add a new keyboard, Italian (Switzerland), Keyboard, Show More. 3) Select the 'Swiss (Apple)' layout and make it current. It is really crazy that the proper 'German-Swiss' layout can only be accessed under the 'Italian (Switzerland)' keyboard.

Notes:

  • Not all keyboards are available in all countries or regions.
  • You can see where characters are located on keyboards for various languages, including what characters are produced when using the shift and option keys by following the instructions in About Keyboard Viewer.
  • Apple notebook built-in keyboards do not include a numeric keypad, and may have slight variations.
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016) and later and MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) and later have the Touch Bar in place of physical function keys.

Argh, despite the Swiss Apple assuring me by phone that if I order International English option, the Macbook will come with the English QWERTY keyboard, it didn't happen.
The OS came in English, as did all the documentation. Even the box had a QWERTY keyboard model on it, with everything in English. But rather amusingly, the actual keyboard is the French QWERTZ.
I don't mind the swapped Y and Z; but it's so crammed with unnecessary (for me) keys that the shift and enter (my most-used keys) are unusually tiny and removed from the main action zone. I keep hitting the wrong buttons and filling my documents with bizarre apostrophes.
It's funny how we expats are stuck with local models. There's no way (that I know of) to order an Mac with an English keyboard in Switzerland unless I actually fly to an English-speaking country or use an expensive and long mail routing service.
Othere than that, this Macbook is superb. No reported issues whatsoever. Maybe the Swiss build enjoys more precision? 🙂
